Description
Round Shield:
Similar circular shields can be found in several historical writings. One of them is the Catalan Sancti Petri Rodensis Biblia from the eleventh century. Currently, the French National Library houses it. Another example of a medieval round shield is the beautifully decorated Spanish manuscript Commentary on the Apocalypse, which is kept in the Morgan Library and Museum in New York. Beato from Liebana created the first manuscript in the eighth century. It is regularly copied and illustrated, making it one of the most read Apocalypse manuscripts from the medieval age. The best example of Spanish art is a copy from the tenth century that is maintained in New York.
